IT Service, Management
& Consulting
37 years in IT Supporting companies Worldwide

Objective:

To provide small business owner and home business owners the information necessary to consider my company, (I.S.), Intermountain Systems, in their next I.T. service needs. To also provide the details to support a senior position or management role in the computer, network, or systems technology project, task or job. To demonstrate my current training and experience that would make me a fit in testing, support or IT either in a long term or short term role.

Experience Summary:

I have been directly involved in the computer network technology for 35 years, and have directly supported customers throughout the world. This support has been through 4-5 generations of computer technology and has covered engineering design and test, product and application support, and IT infrastructure support.  In troubleshooting , I work well across the phone or directly using top down approach to narrow to nearest FRU, then a bottom up approach (OSI layers) to resolve the WAN LAN issue.

 The roles I have participated in range from IT support on the first ISP using X25,(Tymshare) to IT support on mini main frames, field engineering support on multi computer applications supporting cold war security (Lockheed).  Here I wore many hats, test engineer, system repair, interface design engineer and programmer, supervisor of worldwide field service with applications and hardware trainer. Then I moved into managing my own network and computer service business for several years, ending with a contract job designing and testing multi-processor Pentium Pro motherboards at Intel.

 Upon my return to California, I started at Lucent as a network, desktop admin. Then I moved into test engineering, as a test engineer and lab manager on several voice mail applications using AIX, Sun and WINNT.  From here I moved into management of IT (Cotelligent) out-sourcing, escalation's management and technical support management. (Cylink & Spirent) Currently I am performing contract work for small and large business in IT and web services. Unix type OS systems like Linux such as Redhat, Fedora, BSD and Ubuntu have been second nature to me because of past in mini main frame world using predecessors to UNIX on DEC, Data General, Sperry Univac and IBM.

Customer base was companies in the bay area.

 Jan. 1996 - Aug. 1998  -Lucent - Network Desktop Admin, SR. Test Engineer, and Sr. Technical Support Engineer. Starting with my admin position, I did WIN98, Novel, exchange/Outlook and MS-Office  roll-outs for 150 Engineers. Directly did desktop support closing 15 to 30 tickets a day. As a test engineer, I performed several mid-level tests on both hardware and software applications. Client were telecom companies.

 In my secondary function as lab manager, I maintained the systems and network infrastructure which included firewall, switches, routers, IBM RS6000 and Motorola 6XX systems using AIX, Sun, and NT servers and workstations. On the IBM and Motorola hardware, I was directly involved with IBM in beta testing of HACMP and redundancy hardware and OS. Installed and configured Rockwell and Excel switches using multiple T1 connections. Configured PBX and Voice Mail servers. This lab started with 50 AIX systems and doubled by the end of my tenure. As Technical Support Engineer, I dealt with the same applications and hardware supporting Lucent customers. On the project side , I designed and rolled out a new telecom  network lab, several network infrastructure upgrades and layout reconfigurations.

 Training:

I have completed course material on CCNA Boot camp at Unitek,  WIN2k  XP and Office XP roll-out from Microsoft, Bindview, and Front Page. I am at various stages of course material on SBS 2003 R2, WIN2003 and 2008 Servers, in my Microsoft Partnership course material.
In the past I have completed several Microsoft courses on WINNT,MS Office, Lotus Notes, Sun Solaris, IBM AIX, IBM RS6000, Excel Switches and load testing. Plus I have taken many weeks of various voice mail applications, security manager applications, Abacus1 and 2, Safire, SS7, Diffie Helman, RSA, ATM, PKI, Smart cards, and VPN.

I have attended at least four generations of computer schools and have trained many people, both technology and applications.  But where I shine is in crisis management and trouble shooting of LAN and WAN problems.

 Summary;

From time to time, I have been given the opportunity to excel. In those times, I accomplished much. My philosophy is that I can do any job, project or task if tools, time and resources are available. In my last position at Ebay, I was offered 25% increase to stay, but in this case the commute of 2-3 hours a day played against the advantages.  In both Cylink (Safenet) and Zarak (Spirent) I was awarded several thousand shares of stock for my support management and cross functional skills beyond the norm. My salary, many times, has been well into 6 figures as far back a 1986- 1987. I enjoy working on computers, networks, servers and websites of many types. I do this daily either with outsourcing or directly in my business.
